Our team of Curriculum Specialists and Instructional Designers create dynamic materials and engaging activities to support a customized program. Our services can include program design with guidebooks, student workbooks, tests, customized projects and activities that support the curriculum.
Our student-centered programs can help your school or organization create an engaging learning space for at-risk youth. By infusing authenticity into the learning experience, each tailor-made program is ready-to-use and provides the opportunity for youth to solve problems they care about.
Our experts help to conduct research in unique ways. Working with schools and youth-focused organizations in urban communities, we engage youth to become both the lead experts and subjects of research projects. We aim to empower youth to not only have a voice, but to gain authentic skills.
Our training helps adults understand the unique framework of student-centered learning. Professional development engages the participant as a "coach" who guides a team of students, rather than a teacher who instructs from the front of the classroom. The training explores the challenges of motivating students.
We understand that our programs need funding support. Our expert grant writers can craft a proposal for any funder you want to pursue. We can also help to monitor program progress and write a final grant report. Keep in mind funders exist to fulfill their own mission by supporting relevant projects. We will only seek grants that are a match.
Our community engagement has a grassroots focus. Essentially, we know how to communicate and motivate ordinary people to become involved with issues they care about. We use multiple ways to connect with people, including the Internet and print. Most important we are highly effective in reaching younger generations.
Joan Carroll-Flowers has spent decades developing specialized training programs used in various business and community settings. Through the years she has been a change agent working with Fortune 100 companies, nonprofits, churches, community organizations, government agencies, and small business owners.
As an entrepreneur, she has become somewhat of a legend in her quest for advancing environmental and social justice in low-income communities.
Joan pioneered an award-winning "green business" methodology called SEMS™ ─ Small Enterprise Managing Sustainability, which includes a certification process. When SEMS™ was used by the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recognized the program as a "best practice" for training Section 3 Businesses.
The City of Cincinnati presented Joan with a proclamation and an award for improving the operational performance of more than 350 small enterprises in the Greater Cincinnati region.
Her summer program in Philadelphia inspired a group of high school students to start a youth environmental justice council currently sponsored by the City's Office of Sustainability.
Joan is founder and president of Zulema Enterprises, LLC. She is currently on a mission to sever the "school-to-prison" pipeline. Her books . . . The People Zoo: A Guide To Know Who You're Talking To and The Deliverance Project . . . are currently available on Amazon.
